This trip is for those who are not afraid to explore a 'wild' life and happy to experience a real hiking adventure. There would be no luxury hotels or expensive services. However, it will be a fantastic, friendly trip, where everyone is helping each other. In the evening, we will be cooking together at the camp, and you will learn how to live in a camping environment.

We have tried to organize the trip in a way to visit the best places in Southern Iceland within 8 days and have an all-around outdoor experience!

Plan of the trip

Day 1. Arrival. Free time in Reykjavík.

While the group gathering, one of our guides will be meeting everyone at the airport; the other one will show around Reykjavík. You can visit local museums and coffee-places. The capital is small, so you can easily walk there.

In the evening, there will be the meeting at the cozy restaurant where we can tell you detailed plan of our trip. That evening we can do grocery for tomorrow.

Day 2. Klambragil Hike (10 km). Hot bath.

  • Hiking: 10 km
  • Elevation Gain/Loss: 540m
  • Trekking Duration: 4 hours

This day we will drive to KLAMBRAGIL. It is located in beautiful valley-Reykjadalur. The valley is filled with hot springs and mud pools, and there is even a hot river in which we all bathe! First we will do a 10 km hike. The trail is at times steep and narrow, but amazing everywhere we will go! After the hike we'll take a hot bath, we will reach our camping and cook a dinner all together.
Day 3. Skogafoss Waterfall. Black sand beach. Puffins.
  • Driving Duration: 2 hour
  • Walking: 4 km
After a breakfast, we will drive again. After passing a few villages, we will reach the famous Skogafoss Waterfall. Our second stop will be the Reynisfjara black sand beach with its stunning basalt columns. We will do a nice walking here and a big surprise is waiting for us! Here on the cliffs we will climb a bit and find amazing creatures-Puffins! We will stay here for a while in order to observe their daily life. By the way, Iceland is one of little countries that have those incredible birds! Later on, we will drive to the village of Vik, one of the most charming settlements on the Southern part. Also, we'll pass Kirkjubaejarklaustur village and explore lava fields.

Before camping in the evening, we will visit canyon Fjadrargljufur and explore the area.

Day 4. Skaftafetl glacier. Kayaking. Sea-lions.

  • Hiking: 6/7 km
  • Elevation Gain/Loss: minimal 340 m
  • Activity Duration: 4 hours
That day we will take direction to Skaftafetl glacier, a green oasis nestled below the great Vatnajokull glacier, the largest glacier in Europe. It will be along day when you will hike with crampons up a glacier and see an existing view from the top!

After having lunch we will do another activity – kayaking, going through a glacier and observing sea-lions. It will be an interesting day with many activities!
Day 5. Car trip with little stops.

  • Walking : 3 km
  • Elevation Gain/Loss: 240 m
  • Activities: 2 hours
As our way is very long, that day we will be photographing, exploring and doing small hikes. Also, we will explore the Kviarjokull moraine – a valley of debris dumped from the receding Kviarjokull Glacier. Depending on weather, we'll enjoy hot bathing.

On our way we'll also see Eldgja Chasm. After a visit to the chasm, we will keep driving north, passing many gorges and finally reach the National Parc Landmannalaugar. We will stay here for the night and wait for hiking the day after.
DAY 6 Hiking in National Parc Landmannalaugar

  • Hiking : 14 km
  • Elevation Gain/Loss: 670 m
  • Trekking Duration: 5 hours

After our breakfast, we start hiking. Our hike today will lead us through stunning and colorful mountains, lava fields and geothermal features. Finishing our hike, we will enjoy a hot soak in the creek before the dinner. Our camping will be right away at the end of the hike, which makes our hike more pleasant.
Day 7 Hiking in Thingvellir National park. Gasser-Strokkur.

  • Hiking : 3 km
  • Elevation Gain/Loss: 240 m
  • Trekking Duration: 2 hours

Now we are ready for the main adventure – the via ferrata! Via ferrata is a trail made along a steep cliff, with many steps, wooden bridges and crossings, but since you are always fastened with a belay to a metal cable stretched along the entire trail, this trail turns into an interesting and safe adventure.
Day 8 Getting back to the capital

After driving back to the capital, we will have a free evening; we suggest visiting blue lagoon or if you stay longer in Iceland, we will help you to arrange some more activities. For those who fly back immediately, we will help to arrange a shuttle on the day when you go back to the Airport.
